Chinese Embroidered Silk Padded Dark Blue Robe, decorated with butterflies, flowers, circular scenes of figures at various pursuits, and embroidered borders. Provenance: Purchased by Miss Anna Mae Stoever, circa 1924. Miss Anna Mae Stoever, born 1874, was the daughter of wealthy entrepreneur Charles M. Stoever of Philadelphia, the largest manufacturer and dealer on the East Coast of paper for books, newspapers, writing, manilla writing envelopes, and wrapping papers. At 34, she made her first trip around the world where she met Mr. Henry Frederick Wichman in Honolulu, HI, whom she later married in September of 1910 in Brooklyn, NY. After the passing of her husband in 1921, Mrs. Stoever-Wichman began a second world cruise aboard the RMS Mauretania in 1924. It was on this second cruise, where she visited China and Japan, that she acquired this item.

Condition:

Overall good condition. Minor holes to edges of dark blue silk and interior light blue silk, and pulling and some losses to embroidery.
