Charles Moses Brown (FL, 1904-1987) Ceramic Wall Hanging, signed 'CB, 1975' on verso, a round ceramic wall hanging with ceramic beads.

Born in Mayport, FL., Charles Brown moved to the Mandarin area in Jacksonville, FL at age two and remained a lifelong resident. Brown began as a painter in the 1940's and discovered his love of clay in 1961 while taking an art class at the University of Florida. His pots were made from clay he ordered from out of state and rich clay he found in Mandarin on the south banks of the St. Johns River. He created many different items that included long necklaces with clay beads that could be worn or wall hung. During the 1960's - 1980's Brown toured the country and was in major Art and Craft shows. He signed his work on the back or bottom with his initials C.B. and sometimes the date. Charles Brown has work in the University of North Florida Campus (UNF) library that is showcased for students to view and study. His museums exhibits include Cranbrook academy of Art Museum, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Jacksonville Museum of Contemporary Art, Mint Museum of Art Charlotte, North Carolina, and Museum of Arts & Sciences, Daytona Beach, FL.
