Description:

Jean Baptiste Simeon Chardin (French, 1699-1779), A Lady Standing Half Length, unsigned, charcoal on laid paper, with plaque reading "Jean Baptiste S. Chardin 1699-1779" at bottom, a sketch of a standing woman, back of mat marked Alister Mathews, 12 Eaton Rd, Branksome Park, Poole, Dorset, England, Cataglogue #69 - #128, 5 October 1966, Jean-Baptiste-Simeon Chardin 1699-1779 (French) A Lady Standing Half Length', matted and in a wood frame, framed with conservation glass. Frame size: 15 3/8 in. x 13 1/8 in.

Jean Simeon Chardin was an 18th century French painter. He specialized in still-lifes and domestic scenes. He completed several apprenticeships and was a master at the Académie de Saint-Luc. In 1757, Louis XV granted him a studio in the Louvre. His work can still be found in the Louvre today, as well as in notable collections around the world including the National Gallery of Art, the Hermitage Museum, Schloss Charlottenburg, the Sao Paulo Museum of Art, and many others.

Measurements: Height: by sight, 6 5/8 in. x Width: 5 in.

Condition:

Overall good condition, wear to corners of paper, restoration to corners, toning, small tear bottom right, some foxing spots, possible mat burn, not viewed out of frame.
