Ben Stahl was an American artist, illustrator, author and teacher. His talent was evident from a young age when he won a scholarship to the Art Institute of Chicago at age twelve and then exhibited In their International Watercolor Show when he was sixteen. Stahl taught at the Art Institute, the American Academy of Art, the Art Student's League of New York and the Pratt Institute. He also did advertising work, was an official US Air Force artist, created movie posters and illustrated for newspapers and books, in addition to writing two of his own novels. Stahl was inducted into the Illustrators Hall of Fame in 1979 and was a co-founder of the Famous Artists School. He opened the Museum of the Cross in Sarasota, Florida, in 1965 to feature the stations of the cross he had completed as a commission for the Catholic Press. In 1969, all but two of the paintings housed in the museum were stolen, they have never been recovered.
