Arthur Parton was born in Hudson, New York in 1842 and during his life he lived and worked in New York, Pennsylvania, and the United Kingdom. Parton is known as a Hudson River School painter for his landscapes, still lives, mountain landscapes, and animal painting. He was well established in the New York art world where he exhibited at the National Academy of Design. Today Parton's Paintings can be found in the Brooklyn Museum, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Newark Museum, the High Museum, the Hudson River Museum, the Hickory Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum, among others.

Overall good condition, some inpainting along right edge and lower part of central mountain, small loss to paint in central sky above mountain, craquelure throughout, wear and small losses to frame.
