Description:

Arthur V. Diehl (MA/NY/England, 1870-1929), Dunes, Oil on Board, signed lower left with pencil inscription on verso, depicting sand dunes with blue sky and seagulls, in a wood and giltwood frame. Frame size: 12 in. x 14 in.

Arthur Vidal Diehl is known for his sand dune and harbor scenes of Cape Cod. He was born in England and came to America in the 1890s. Diehl exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1899 and he became so closely associated with his works of the Cape Cod landscape that Movietone made a short movie of him painting at Provincetown in 1921.

Good condition, light wear to edges of board, minor surface dirt, wear to frame.
