Anthony Rasch, Coin Silver Teapot, C. 1817-1819, (Act. Philadelphia 1804-1820, New Orleans 1820-1858), with animal form spout, floral motifs, and wood handle, monogramed 'C.E.', stamped 'A. Rasch & Co.' and 'Philadelphia'.
Anthony Rasch was born about 1780 near Passau, Bavaria, where he learned the trade of silversmithing and goldsmithing. Sometime between 1801 and 1803 he came to Philadelphia, where he worked for a time with Simon Chaudron, and later by himself. He later set up a company with George Willig, Jr. in Philadelphia under the title 'A. Rasch & Co.' Rasch moved to New Orleans in 1821 and set up his own company under simply, 'A. Rasch'. With the exception of a trip to Germany and France in 1836-1837, he lived the rest of his life in New Orleans, where he died in 1858.
