Description:
Anne Taylor Nash (GA/NC, 1884-1968), Portrait of a Young Woman in Blue Dress and Headband, Oil on Canvas, unsigned, depicting a seated woman in blue dress with striped collar and a blue headband, unframed.John Duncan purchased remainder of artists works from their estate in 2005.
Anne Taylor Nash did not begin painting seriously until, the age of 40, when her friend and fellow artist Elizabeth O’Neill Verner encouraged her to take up the brush. She studied in Charleston before moving to Savannah where she lived and painted for the rest of her life. She exhibited at the Telfair Academy with the Savannah Art Club at least ten times between 1931 and 1958. In 2015, the Telfair held the first solo exhibition of her work since an exhibition of her portraits at the Gibbes in 1933.
Measurements: Height: 24 in. x Width: 20 in.
Condition:
Overall good condition, wear and losses to paint along edges of canvas, canvas slightly loose on stretcher, some minor craquelure, faint stretcher marks along edges, small loss to paint in forehead, inpainting throughout.
