Description:

Anne Taylor Nash (GA/NC, 1884-1968), Portrait of a Woman, Oil on Canvas, signed with artists dates in pencil on the stretcher, depicting a seated woman in deep purple lace dress with open back against a teal blue background, in a giltwood frame. Frame size: 36 3/4 in. x 31 1/2 in.

John Duncan purchased remainder of artists works from their estate in 2005.

Anne Taylor Nash did not begin painting seriously until, the age of 40, when her friend and fellow artist Elizabeth O’Neill Verner encouraged her to take up the brush. She studied in Charleston before moving to Savannah where she lived and painted for the rest of her life. She exhibited at the Telfair Academy with the Savannah Art Club at least ten times between 1931 and 1958. In 2015, the Telfair held the first solo exhibition of her work since an exhibition of her portraits at the Gibbes in 1933.

Measurements: Height: by sight 29 3/4 in. x Width: 24 3/4 in.

Condition:

Good restored condition, some areas of inpainting in background, restored tear on right side above shoulder, some inpainting along cheek, neck and arm, light wear to frame.
