André Derain was a seminal French painter known for his landscapes, portraits, and still lifes. Alongside Henri Matisse, Derain pioneered the use of pure color relationships to produce vibrant Fauvist works. Derain’s works are held in the collections of the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Tate Gallery in London, among others.
