Alexander John Drysdale (Louisiana, 1870-1934), Bayou Scene, Watercolor on Paper, signed and dated 1933 lower left, depicting a Bayou scene with cypress, matted and framed. Frame size: 30 3/4 in. x 16 7/8 in.
Born in Marietta, Georgia, Alexander John Drysdale was a portrait and landscape painter who specialized in landscapes of Louisiana using the technique of oil wash, that gave his works a characteristic hazy look. Drysdale made use of this technique by diluting the oil paint with kerosene and applying it to the canvas board with cotton balls. Drysdale was prolific, having painted an estimated 10,000 works.
