Description:

Alberto de Castro (Canadian, 1952-1995), Grandma's Helper, Acrylic on Board, signed lower right and initial signed and titled with illegible inscription and gallery label on verso, depicting a woman and child baking cookies in a kitchen, matted and framed. Frame size: 23 in. x 22 in.

Alberto de Castro was born in Angola in 1952, of Portuguese descent. His early years were spent painting and traveling in Spain, before emigrating to Montreal in 1969. After holding several solo exhibitions, de Castro won the commission to paint a mural for the Portuguese Pavilion at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. Afterwards he moved to Toronto in 1980. He died of AIDS related causes in 1995 at age 42. Today his work can be found in the collections of the Ontario Legislature, Our Lady of Lourdes Church and the Portuguese Consulate in Toronto.

Measurements: Height: by sight 10 3/4 in. x Width: 9 1/2 in.

Condition:

Good condition, light wear to edges of frame, some small stains and foxing to linen mat.
