Adam Emory Albright (IL/WI/CA, 1862-1957), Flying a Kite, Oil on Canvas, 1916, signed and dated 1916 lower right, depicting two boys flying a kite, numbered '546' on verso of canvas and inscribed 'Ivan' on stretcher, possibly in reference to the artist's son Ivan Albright, in a period giltwood frame. Frame size: 28 1/2 n. x 34 1/2 in. Provenance: According to the conisgnor this was purchased directly from the artist by their grandfather who lived in Chicago.
Adam Emory Albright was born in Monroe, Wisconsin on August 15, 1862. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy and the Art Institute of Chicago and spent most of his artistic career in Illinois. He established his studio in Chicago in 1888 and became President of the Chicago Watercolor Club and was a member of the Chicago Academy of Design. Albright became a noted landscape, still life, and figure painter, especially of country children often using his twin sons Ivan and Melvin as subjects. He exhibited in the Panama Pacific International Exposition in 1915 and after 1917 often spent winters in southern California. (Askart.com)
