Willy Pogany (NY/CA/Hungary,1882-1955), 5 Etchings, c. 1934, each pencil signed. In 1934 Philadelphia publisher David McKay issued an edition of Bhagavad Gita as translated from the Sanskrit by Sir Edwin Arnold. Willy Pogany was commissioned to provide illustrations of which 18 were selected for the book & reproduced in gravure by the Beck Engraving Company. This group was separately published, the title of each is below 'Of darkness, blinding mortal men, binds down their souls to stupor, sloth, drowsiness', 'When he dies surely shall his spirit rise to those regions where the blest, free of flesh, in joyance rest', How shall I learn, supremist mystery?
