Description:

1883 US Military Rifle Target Shoot Trophy, a cup mounted on four rifles with a target in the center of the base, the cup engraved '15th to the 5th Separate Co. Nov. 29th 1883 Won by Corporal Dooley,' stamped underneath 'Quadruple Plate Wilcox Silver plate Co. 1234.' Information from the consignor reads, ‘ This Corporal James Dooley trophy was won at the US Army Military Rifle Target Shoot in 1883 and was cited In the Vol. 21, Dec. 8, 1883 The United States Army & Navy Journal & Gazette - on page 380., where it states; "The 15th Separate Company, Capt. Barthold Meyers commanding, had a grand time at the annual target shoot on Nov. 27th at the range East Poughkeepsie. Not withstanding the swampy conditions of the range and a cold, blistery day to contend with, many invited guests were present and enjoyed themselves. Among the visitors Lieuts. Wells and Little, Corpl. James Dooley, Drum Major Patterson and his drum corps of 10 boys and a detachment of Capt. Chase\'s 5th Separate Company, Newburgh. Corporal James Dooley won the visiting military prize, a silver cup [accented on a target with four rifles]."

Condition:

Overall good condition, some chipping around the rim and light tarnishing.
